2006-2011 Honda Civic 1.8L and Civic Hybrid 1.3L Muffler Guide

Quick answer
The AFECO 54668 rear muffler fits the 2006-2011 Honda Civic 1.8L and the 2006-2011 Civic Hybrid 1.3L. It does not cover every Civic of those years, so check your engine size first. It is made from 304 stainless steel, which resists rust better than the more common 409 grade, a real advantage for a part that sits in road spray and collects water on short trips.
Exact fit
| Years | Make | Model | Engine | Drive |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2006-2011 | Honda | Civic | 1.8L 4-cylinder | Front-wheel drive |
| 2006-2011 | Honda | Civic Hybrid | 1.3L 4-cylinder | Front-wheel drive |
Check before ordering: Civics with other engines (for example the 2.0L) are not on this list. Enter your VIN in the free NHTSA VIN decoder and confirm Displacement (L) shows 1.8 (or 1.3 for the Hybrid).
Signs the muffler is failing
| What you notice | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| Louder exhaust, raspy or deeper tone | Rust hole or split seam |
| Rattle at the back at idle or over bumps | Broken inner wall, or a loose heat shield or hanger |
| Visible rust, flaking or a hole | Corrosion through the shell |
| Exhaust smell near the trunk | A leak at the back |

Why 304 stainless helps here
Civics are often used for commuting and short trips. On short drives, water from combustion never fully boils off and sits in the muffler. 304 stainless has much more chromium and nickel than 409, so it resists that kind of corrosion better and keeps a brighter finish. A magnet sticks only weakly or not at all to most 304, which is an easy way to tell grades apart.
Is there a recall?
We checked NHTSA's recall database for the 2006-2011 Civic. None of the safety recalls listed involve the exhaust system. Check your own VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls for the current answer.
Before you buy
- Rule out a loose hanger or heat shield if the only symptom is a rattle.
- Check the pipe ahead of the muffler for rust. If it is weak, repair it at the same time.
- Confirm your engine size from the VIN.
Fitting notes
The AFECO 54668 is direct-fit and includes hardware. Soak the old joint with penetrating oil, use the new hardware, and check that the tailpipe is centred in the bumper cut-out before final tightening.
