Non-CARB compliant policy
Last checked: 2026-10-04
What it means
AFECO catalytic converters are not CARB compliant. They have not been approved by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and do not carry a CARB Executive Order (EO) number.
Where they may not be sold or used
- California: new aftermarket catalytic converters sold in California after January 1, 2009 must be approved by CARB. (CARB)
- New York: since January 1, 2023, aftermarket catalytic converters sold or installed for any model year gasoline car or light truck must have a CARB Executive Order. (NY DEC)
- Colorado: since January 1, 2021, aftermarket catalytic converters sold or installed for any model year vehicle must be CARB approved. (CDPHE)
- Maine: since June 1, 2018, 2001 and newer gasoline vehicles under 14,000 lb that were certified to California or 50-state emissions standards need a CARB approved or original equipment converter. (Maine DEP)
Other states can adopt these rules, and rules change. Before you buy, check the rules where your vehicle is registered. This page is general information, not legal advice.
Before you order
Do not order an AFECO catalytic converter for a vehicle registered in the places above. If you already have, contact us through Amazon messages from your order page before you install it.
